Some thoughts on Identification and Differentiation

We should be giving ourselves (humans) a lot more credit for the things we are able to do.

Take identification of objects for example. Being able to know what an item is, and differentiation, being able to distinguish one item from another. And all these with high accuracy.

Machines can’t have a high level of distinguishing ability but they are surely getting close.

While certain objects seem easier to classify and distinguish; like differentiating between an Apple vs an Orange.

Things can get pretty interesting. I’m not sure how validated this thinking of mine is.

Take Ang Ku Kueh. This Hokkien/Teochew kueh, is easily identifiable by its red colour. But, but, apparently there are other colours of the same kueh. Would my app be able to identify other colours of it?

Ang Ku Kueh

What I’m trying to say is, there’s a lot of learning and retaining that knowledge, or inferring and deducing in learning. How do I ensure my app can help users get accurate results?

Much to learn I have…
