An upcoming documentary series on Netflix will follow one of the biggest cryptocurrency scams.

Following the hack of a virtual currency exchange in 2016, Ilya “Dutch” Lichtenstein and Heather Morgan laundered 120,000 Bitcoins. The pair created fake online identities per the sudden jump in Bitcoin’s value, which skyrocketed from $71 million USD to nearly $5 billion USD. Investigators were then trying to track their digital money as they bought physical assets and NFTs, while they liquidated their digital money.

Chris Smith, of Tiger King and FYRE: The Greatest Party That Never Happened, will direct and produce the series. He will be joined by executive producer Nick Bilton, whose works include American Kingpin: The Epic Hunt for the Criminal Mastermind Behind the Silk Road and Fake Famous, The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley.
