2024 Nissan Z NISMO Unleashed in Los Angeles
The atmosphere was electric as enthusiasts and automotive journalists gathered in downtown Los Angeles for the highly anticipated launch event of the 2024 Nissan Z NISMO. The return of the NISMO grade means more than just a performance trim for the Z. It means that the iconic sports car promises a track-ready experience, taking the thrill of driving to new heights. This was only a reveal event, so obviously we will have to wait to see if it delivers on those promises but nevertheless, as fans, we were all excited to see this car.
Performance Upgrades
The Z NISMO boasts an impressive 420 horsepower and 384 lb-ft of torque, a significant increase compared to other Z grades. Nissan claims the enhancements to the twin-turbo engine, including improved cooling and revised electronic wastegate control, contribute to the car’s outstanding performance across the entire rev range.
Aerodynamic Style and Balance
The exterior of the Z NISMO showcases NISMO-specific bodywork, meticulously engineered to improve aerodynamic performance on the race track. The “Grand-Nose” design element extends boldly forward, recalling the heritage of the Nissan Fairlady 240ZG. Canards at the front corners create vortexes over the wheels, further enhancing aerodynamics. The taller, wider rear spoiler and reshaped rear bumper corners improve air separation and reduce drag, taking cues from the GT-R NISMO.
Track-Ready Handling
Unique stabilizer bars, a stiffer spring rate, and larger, retuned dampers combine to deliver “one-shot” steering precision, allows drivers to take on turns with minimal adjustment. The car comes with Dunlop® SP SPORT MAXX GT600 tires and NISMO-specific, gloss black RAYS 19-inch wheels to enhance the car’s performance and aesthetics.
The Z NISMO exclusively uses a nine-speed automatic transmission, with a new Sport+ drive mode that caters to circuit driving. Previous Z Nismos all came with a manual transmission.
While the excitement was palpable during the launch event, eager fans will have to wait a little longer to take the Z NISMO to the streets. The car is scheduled to go on sale in the fall, with pricing to be announced at a later date.
