I just recently got around to listening The Inevitable podcast hosted by Ed Loh and Jonny Lieberman. They interviewed John Naderi who is hosting a new show called the Super Street Garage on the Motortrend network.

John is the perfect host for such a show because not only is he a legend in the import tuning industry but because he was the editor of the Super Street magazine, when it still existed. Plus he’s just old and been around the block.

The podcast is over 2 hours of John revealing his past as a kid growing up in Van Nuys hitting up car shows on his BMX bike to getting his first magazine gig, quitting Super Street to join a start-up which ends up shutting down within 18 months and how he helped launch the Hoonigan YouTube channel. The episode is so long that Ed Loh has to get up and leave for a bio break. I’ve seen Joe Rogan get up during podcasts but never on this show.

The two hosts Ed and Jonny continually interrupt each other as always but thankfully they let John do most of the talking and the two hours flew by really quickly because of the interesting stories told.

It’s a great walk down memory lane for those who were in the import tuning scene. I first met John in the early 2000s when he was the editor of Super Street. He was actually one of the first US magazine editors that hired me to contribute stories from Japan.

I have been in the industry almost as long as John has been so it was great to hear John’s inside version of how things happened. Some of the things he mentions in this podcast like how he met the late Ken Block and how gymkhana started in the US have probably never been told on the air and if you’re a fan of import cars or JDM, you should listen to this show.

Here are some of of my favorite excerpts:

☝️The story of how the Super Street Garage started.

☝️How Gymkhana started in the US with Ken Block.

☝️John Naderi doesn’t care about the new Civic Type R.
