Of all economic and cultural development systems, technology, due to its continuous reforms and updates is the most forward looking. The trendy feature of technology gives a positive outlook towards life generally and this includes views on gender issues. Tech knows no gender, a user is a user and gender does not define the extent of a user’s abilities. The perception of female techies in Kwarabuild for example goes a long way to show that tech does not support gender inequality and that a techie (gent or lady) can achieve whatever reach he/she aspires.

However, men and women who effect gender discrimination or have been negatively affected by it in other aspects of life have a notion that the story is likely to be the same in tech systems. To overwrite this perception therefore, KwaraBuild women in tech led by Adeola Grace came up as a niche in the KwaraBuild tech community to help women who want to build a career in tech go through an amazing journey to reach their goals and to build a strong network of global community where women can collaborate and empower one another to bring positive change to their immediate and remote communities.

We at kwarabuild women in tech community have taken it upon ourselves to integrate women into the tech community without fear of feeling less or being discriminated against. Our aim is to sensitize women who are passionate about building and developing themselves in the tech world while following the trends of technology. We also celebrate women who have had the courage to question the status quo.

In 2019, the community organized three programs to kick start the execution of its purpose. Our first meetup tagged: Creating a Legacy for Women was on 9th February.

Thereafter, we had an online training of how to use Slack. We also organized a workshop where participants belonged to four different sections of interest thereby creating four teams at the end of the training. They are Web Development, Wordpress, Content Marketing and Ui/Ux.

After which a code challenge was thrown at the web development group by web development facilitator Ahmed Olanrewaju while Nimotallahi Hammed emerged as the winner! At these events, we created challenges that build teamwork and take individuals extra step further in self-development, self-confidence and achieving a sense of accomplishment.

On the 8th of June, we had another meetup tagged: Emerging Together in the Tech Industry. Participants were placed under mentorship programs and positive results have been recorded.
