Popularity of Social Networks: What Makes Social Media Outlets More Attractive Than Others?

The above graph shows the number of google searches for each of the top three social media networks; Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. What makes Facebook so superior to the other two platforms? Is it because Facebook is simply a better and easier to use platform? Or is there a deeper psychological answer on why people are more attracted to Facebook? The results of the graph surprised me because among me and my peers, Instagram and Twitter are vastly more popular than Facebook is.
