2015: 8 highlights from a fantastic year at La Belle Assiette

After a great year, the La Belle Assiette Team would like to share its entrepreneurial highlights from 2015 and our vision for 2016 with our community, customers, chefs and curious followers.

Adventurers of La Belle Assiette : Sophie, Millie, Esther, Elise, Franck, Guillaume, Marc, Sophie, Audrey, Astrid, Thomas, Caroline, Lukas, Mathieu, Giorgio, Frederic, Michelle, Stephen, Kasia & Duc.

Last year we presented our successes from 2014 and wrote a few words about our vision for 2015. And what a year 2015 was!

First, we were joined by fifteen new talented and inspiring personalities who have become part of the adventure: Frederic, Astrid, Marc, Claudel, Izzy, Caroline, Veronique, Elise, Sophie & Sophie, Guillaume, Lukas, Esther, Ben and Millie.

Lead by our desire to bring enjoyment to people’s homes we continued on our entrepreneurial journey of discovery, surprise and success.

Let’s have a look at some incredible figures from 2015 …

  • 297 new chefs partners. (680 in total!)
  • 4.6 stars (out of 5) - the average star rating given to the chefs this year.
  • 125 chefs were booked for the 14th February - a new record.
  • 3922 reviews written after a booking.
  • 342 appearances in the press and on blogs.
  • 602 published articles on our blogs.
  • 15 new team members.
  • 3646 menus created by our chefs.
  • 1 wedding (Congratulations Michelle!)
  • 6 countries in which La Belle Assiette now offers its services.
  • … and 148 867 new lines of code on the site!

The year began on a high when we received 20 minutes of coverage from the main TV channel in France, TF1. In one evening we had tens of thousands of visitors to our site all discovering our service.

We call this ‘The TF1 effect!’.

La Belle Assiette was also very present in the national media in 2015, the Daily Mail, Monocle, The Times, the Evening Standard, Metro, the Financial Times, The Guardian, Reuters, TIME Magazine (US), France TV (FR), RTL (FR), 20 Minutes (FR), Le Parisien (FR), BFM (FR), Le Figaro (FR), and Der Spiegel (DE) all spoke about our services.

“500 chefs already! Remember when we celebrated the first 50? “

In March, we reached two important stages in our development.
Firstly, we reached the landmark of 500 chefs on our platform, evidence of the growing confidence chefs have in us. A few days later we launched in Germany, our sixth country, with promising first steps in Hamburg, including an awesome collaboration with Uber #UBERChef. We then began a gradual expansion in other large cities including Munich and Berlin.

In May and June we made big changes to our website. A considerable change in the navigation around the home chef service was made, with a shift to menus being the focus and standardising prices with 3 different ranges. As well as the launch of two highly anticipated features: split-the-bill between guests and the referral program.

It was during this period that La Belle Assiette enjoyed its best release of the year, accompanied by an incredible title: our CEO and co-founder Stephen Leguillon was named among five Next Generation Leaders in 2015 by TIME Magazine. Our favourite quote from the article “When Stephen Leguillon walks into a stylish apartment in Paris after a long day at the office, he barely seems to notice the dining table adorned with flutes of champagne gently fizzing , the aroma of freshly baked bread filling the room or the sound of clattering pans emerging from the kitchen. For Leguillon, this is work.

Elise (Office Manager) — October 17, 2015

In October, it was an opportunity for our team to organise its first real team building event after the numerous arrivals of 2015. Thus in full force we headed to Normandy for a festive, foodie and somewhat sporty weekend. Having the whole team together gave Stephen and Giorgio the opportunity to share their vision for 2016.

A month later, a new service appeared: the Buffet! We first launched this service in Paris, and then throughout France.

The new strategy for 2016 is challenging but necessary: build and create a new offer, within weeks make it clear and attractive, quickly disseminate, then repeat. At the time of writing these words, we are preparing the launch of our latest service “Cooking Classes” in London.

Sophie (Marketing Director) — November 28, 2015

A new award for the office!

At the end of November, we were presented with two awards in one week. First the Franco-British SME Award presented by the French Chamber of Great Britain where companies from either side of the channel meet. A few days later in France, the FEVAD and a grand jury of entrepreneurs gave our founders, Stephen & Giorgio the silver prize for Favor’i Best Hope E-commerce in 2015, a very encouraging week!

Londoners — December 02, 2015

Finally, the month of December 2015 represented an opportunity to celebrate the first anniversary of La Belle Assiette UK and acknowledge the superb work done by our London team, with (already!) 200 talented chefs in our community.

This brings our annual summary to an end.

All that remains is for us to thank you to our customers, chefs and partners for your confidence and enthusiasm. We look forward to continuing our journey together.

We will be back soon to tell you a little about the BIG news that awaits this year…
