When it comes to the Revolution having “legs,” I would agree with said statement. After finishing up our books, on top of the articles and videos given for this week’s module, it would be hard to ignore the effects of the Revolution. Mexico’s authority problem can be directly linked to the revolutionary leaders consistently changing as well at institutions implemented during the revolution. We learn from Morris’ text “Continuity and Change in Mexican Politics,” that when it comes to complication and problems Mexico faces, one perspective suggests that they “stem from the continuation of certain features of the authoritarian regime- holdovers from the past — and the democratic change has been uneven” (Morris, 2010, p.190).

This perspective is interesting to me as Morris goes on, he states that despite the change in elections, “little changed in terms of the weak rule of law, the level of impunity, or the lack of trust in Mexico’s formal institutions” (Morris, 2010, p.190). This statement explains to us that although change has happened, going far back before the Revolution, there are still large problems when it comes to the law and Mexico’s institutions.

Even looking to Gonzales’ final chapter, he speaks on events which were still evolving in this century. Gonzales states that Fox’s win brought an end to longest regime in power (the PRI). He goes on to state that this outcome “reflects public discontent over decades of government corruption, scandal, economic mismanagement, and neglect of revolutionary principles” (Gonzales, 2002, p.260), proving that the ties from the revolution were still there.

Above is a picture of current president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrado, also known as AMLO. AMLO was also Head of Governemnt of Mexico City before winning the electin in 2018 from 2000–2005 which ties into my example of Gonzales’ Conlusion chapter. This stood out to me because Gonzales’ goes over Fox’s reign in 2000, showing that AMLO, current president, dealth with similar issues which were tied to the revolution.
