Nei primi anni del ‘900 quando la fotografia uscì dai laboratori di chimica ed entrò nelle botteghe di Parigi le persone entravano curiose ed uscivano con un cartoncino grigio raffigurante la propria persona molto più realistico di qualsiasi dipinto avessero mai visto prima.

I pittori si scandalizzavano dicendo che la fotografia non sarebbe mai diventata un’arte ma solo un modo per “dipingere velocemente” mentre le persone facoltose si vantavano di avere in casa un ritratto fotografico, che costituiva la novità dell’epoca.
Di fatto la fotografia diventò una disciplina artistica quando la tecnologia (meccanica, ottica, chimica) fece spazio ai contenuti, alla poesia, alle emozioni. Ecco perchè dei tanti pionieri che si avventurarono nella pratica di questa nuovissima attività ci ricordiamo di Felix Nadar e non di tanti altri. Perchè Nadar ci mise l’anima e i suoi ritratti sono diventati, negli anni, delle pietre miliari della storia della fotografia e dell’arte tutta.
In questi giorni pensavo alla perfetta simmetria a cui assistiamo osservando gli sviluppi della tecnologia legata alle stampanti 3D. Il commento più comune è “ok, sono molto interessanti ma cosa me ne faccio di una serie di oggetti fosforescenti assolutamente inutili?”. Con le premesse che abbiamo fatto la risposta è semplice, basta aspettare che la tecnologia lasci spazio ai contenuti e il gioco è fatto.
Cosa pensano oggi coloro che hanno la fortuna (e i soldi) per comprarsi una scultura che raffigura esattamente la propria persona? Probabilmente le stesse cose, esatte, delle prime persone che furono fotografate.
Stiamo solo aspettando che alle stampanti 3D ci mettano l’anima, che qualche artista esca dalla nicchia e regali al mondo il lascia passare per le stampanti 3D che diventeranno, come le macchine fotografiche, parte integrante della nostra vita.
Un esempio artistico su tutti: Heather Dewey-Hagborg, con il progetto Stranger Visions dove colleziona reperti di sconosciuti dai quali estrae il DNA, lo analizza e crea un modello 3D che poi viene stampato con una stampante 3D.
Manca pochissimo al giorno in cui questi dispositivi saranno cose di uso quotidiano.
