Lab Atlanta visits the world headquarters of CNN
CNN was launched at 5:00 on June 1, 1980, to a small cable audience. Today, its services are offered to over 2 billion people in 200 countries around the world. CNN has 36 editorial operations across the globe and 3,000 employees worldwide.
On March first, 2019, the Spring Cohort of Lab Atlanta visited its global headquarters in Atlanta, GA. On a behind the scenes tour, we met with producer Ryan Bergeron and learned how CNN films, produces and broadcasts its content.
Exploring the Area
The CNN Center is located in the Omni Complex in Downtown Atlanta. After lunch at food court, we enjoyed an exclusive meeting with producer Ryan Bergeron. Ryan focuses on sponsored content and CNN originals. He taught the Lab Cohort how he makes his content for CNN and why he loves it so much. He showed the Cohort a video that he made about a woman who was an ex-drug addict. In a recent video, Ryan profiled Margot Talbot who uses ice climbing to aid her recovery from a drug addiction. Her story was already powerful and inspiring, but the presentation by Ryan made it even more moving.
Behind the Scenes Tour
Next we ascended the longest freestanding escalator in the world. Inside Studio 57, we watched a broadcast and learned some production fundamentals.
My favorite part about the trip to the CNN Center was the sense of global community that was highlighted in our tour and in our discussion with Ryan Bergeron. CNN strives to connect with the world and inform the world with what is going on across the globe. This role in society is so important today because through CNN everyone can learn about issues and help out or learn about celebrations in our beloved global community.
