What is Reno?

Every time I search for Reno in Baidu, the input method always associates the word “Renovation” with the meaning of “renovation”. This is the first possibility that I thought of about Reno’s name. Shen Yiren, vice president of OPPO, once said that the Reno series is an unprecedented and creative new product line. Different from OPPO’s previous products, it has a new product concept, design philosophy and communication method.

The correct pronunciation of Reno is [‘ri:no]

OPPO Reno Standard Edition has been in the editorial department for half a month (April 11th), and I have been using it as the main machine. Obviously, OPPO has high hopes for the “successor” of this R series: in appearance, in addition to the slightest feeling of the hand, it is difficult to find its slot, regardless of vision, workmanship or details.

Of course, you have to say that it has no shortcomings, and I totally disagree. After all, the design is beautiful and ugly. It varies from person to person. The hard and good indicators (such as the quality of the photos, the length of the game and the fluency of the system) are also very subjective. So in the next experience article, I will try to present the results that everyone can directly judge and the subjective experience of the individual.

Comprehensive appearance experience

When I got the box, I couldn’t help but say: The phone box is really long.

The OPPO Reno Standard Edition box is really long and may be the longest cell phone box I have ever seen. Take a look at the comparison with the Xiaomi 9 box. The pattern on the standard box is the Reno back camera and a new logo style.

Why is it so long? The answer (probably) is that OPPO put these things on the tile…

Really full screen amazing I believe many people have already felt it when Find X was launched, but when you pick up OPPO Reno and turn it on, this visual impact will still make you shine. This feeling is like: You are not holding a mobile phone, but a screen. At night, this feeling will be stronger.

The OPPO Reno Standard Edition features a 6.4-inch AMOLED panoramic screen with a resolution of 2340 × 1080, with a screen ratio of 93.1%. According to the official introduction, the screen uses the sixth generation of gorilla glass, which has the consistent characteristics of scratch resistance and drop resistance. But friendly reminder: Be sure to attach the protective film for the first time after you buy it. Because on the day of use, there is a scratch on my OPPO Reno screen, and I just put it in my pocket.

The earpiece, the front camera, the front soft light, and the rear flash are all hidden in the side-rotating lifting structure. It is the essence of this mobile phone, and the technology content is quite high.

According to the official introduction, with the built-in structure motor, as long as you receive an instruction to call the front camera (face unlock, self-timer, video call, etc.), it can respond and slide out in 0.8 seconds. At the same time, if it senses that the phone is in a falling state, it will automatically close up. With over 200,000 usage counts, you don’t have to worry about over-use it and it won’t break.

Whether it’s the OPPO N1’s flip camera or the Reno’s side-rotating structure, the company’s thirst for technological innovation is something that I personally like very much. When the industry design almost reached the bottleneck, OPPO seems to always be able to seek differentiation through this structural innovation.

When I got it, I set it up to unlock my face. However, when I use it, I use the fingerprint: Compared with the mobile phone with the explicit front camera, OPPO Reno pops up the camera every time the face is unlocked. The foreign body is particularly strong, and the frequency of unlocking this function is very high. Of course, with me, other pop-up fronts will certainly have a similar feeling. This is not a shortcoming, it is just a personal feeling.

There is also the question of the ash entering this structure, which is inevitable. Half a month of observation, as long as it is taken out of the pocket to open the front camera, this location will always gather a lot of fine dust, based on the regular structure of the structure, it is not troublesome to wipe and can remove most of the dust. However, because the earpiece is a recessed design, this position is not clean. At the same time, a part of the dust will fall into the gap formed after the rise.

The price of innovation is probably the same. Although this problem is almost inevitable, the structural innovation of OPPO is still very worthy of recognition.

The back of the OPPO Reno Standard seems to reflect the “design philosophy” of this new series. I personally like this style very simple: it has a sense of design. OPPO calls it “unified order beauty and pleasure.”

  • The designer created a separate space for the back center of the Reno series, which was used to store the original scattered elements into a complete line, making the back shape of the entire phone unique and elegant.

The standard back has an integrated 3D curved glass body, the camera has no bumps, but below the camera, OPPO deliberately designed a little “bump”: a round green border. OPPO calls it O-Dot, and its slight bumps protect the lens from the wear and tear caused by everyday use.

Do you think that this O-Dot is a bit like Sony Ericsson’s LOGO? The green color that represents the OPPO brand is reflected in Reno. In addition to O-Dot, there is the power button on the right.

The overall appearance of the OPPO Reno standard version is still very good, the panoramic screen is very cool, the side-rotating camera is very technical, and the rate of returning is very high when taking pictures outside, and it is often asked which mobile phone this is. However, in the actual use process, the panoramic screen also has troublesome places. For example, when watching video in full screen, you need to switch out. At this time, you will find that you may not know which side is the control area (gesture operation). ), there will be a few more steps in the invisible to complete the purpose.

In addition, if you use the OPPO Reno Standard Edition with one hand, if you don’t have a set, it is quite easy for a skater to catch. Moreover, the standard version of 185g, the zoom version of 210g took a long time in the hands of really heavy feeling, this is also the Tucao after many girls experience this phone.

Photo experience

My personal evaluation of the quality of the mobile phone camera experience is very simple: it is simple enough to use.

The simpler the better, the more foolish you don’t have to think. What professional mode special effects take a few times to play tired is useless. Good-looking standards are subjective, but don’t make the picture too sharp for clarity, or the sky and grass are too thick.

In addition, I didn’t have much interest in taking photos of my mobile phone at night. This time I experienced Reno and I didn’t take pictures at night. The limits of the physical laws are there, and it is good to be able to increase the filming rate (do not take ten sheets and only one can be used).

The OPPO Reno Standard Edition is equipped with a 48 million main + 5 megapixel depth of field lens and comes standard with the Sony IMX 586 sensor. The sensor size is 1/2.0 inch and F1.7 large aperture. There is nothing to say about the parameters, let’s show you the proofs of this phone!

All samples have not been processed.

In general, the OPPO Reno standard version of the camera experience is quite good, AI scene recognition is very easy to use, do not deliberately adjust the camera mode when shooting, the lens automatically recognizes the macro when the camera is close, when shooting people It will automatically open portraits, as well as landscapes and food.

This feature allows me to successfully capture the butterfly in the picture one. At that time, the situation was the subway exit at the morning peak after the rain. A butterfly was parked on the distribution box at the side of the road. I almost did not hesitate to open the camera function. Just after it was finished, it was scared away by the noise of passing passengers.

Charging measurement and endurance experience

Charging measurement

“Charging for five minutes, talking for two hours”, I believe that this slogan spread throughout the north and south of the river knows everyone. The OPPO Reno Standard Edition is equipped with a 3765mAh battery with a zoom version of 4065mAh <all typical>. The two versions of the fast charge are VOOC flash charge 3.0 — I am actually quite surprised. As a successor to the R series, the flagship OPPO such as the 10x zoom is not equipped with SuperVOOC super flash.

So far, there are two models equipped with OPPO’s latest charging black technology SuperVOOC super flash charging: OPPO R17 Pro and OPPO Find X (flash version and Lamborghini custom models). Personal guess, the reason why the zoom version of OPPO Reno does not have SuperVOOC super flash is probably because the R17 series is still selling.

OPPO Reno uses a 5V/4A charging head. The charging power of 20W is the most direct difference compared to the charging power of the R17 Pro flashing version with SuperVOOC super flashing nearly 50W. It is the charging speed: under the condition of almost the same battery capacity. The R17 Pro takes only 35 minutes to fully charge, and the measured time for the Reno Standard to charge from 0 to 100% is 72 minutes, exactly doubled.

Of course, this does not mean that OPPO Reno’s fast charge does not work. Based on Qualcomm’s QC (QuickCharge) 3.0 18W fast charge standard, Reno’s VOOC 3.0 is higher than the mainstream fast charge level, and the actual charge speed, 72 minutes from 0 to 100 is really not slow.

In the charging curve of OPPO Reno Standard Edition, the growth rate before 50 minutes is basically 8% to 9% increase every five minutes; after 50 minutes, the speed is obviously slowed down and becomes 5%; after one hour, it becomes 2% until full.

Our measured charging speed curve is basically consistent with the official charging curve of OPPO Reno. The only difference is that when the time is 30 minutes, the official curve shows that the charging has been ≥60%, and the charge that has been charged in our test for 30 minutes. It is 51%.

Endurance experience

In fact, for the current state of the full screen with more than 6 inches, the 4G application unlimited streaming and the high frame rate mode of the game, the endurance test of the normal mobile phone is not meaningless, because most mobile phones You will need a charge for 1 day. Of course, I can also say that the main purpose of this test is to see if it can last for one day under normal use.

At full power, we conducted a series of consumption tests on the OPPO Reno Standard Edition so that everyone can judge its endurance experience through intuitive power consumption. Of course, in order to increase the difficulty of the game, we also conducted a separate discharge test.

Stability Test is a test software for Android that allows you to discharge your phone very quickly while still seeing the temperature of your phone’s hardware (battery) test. When the phone is fully charged, start the Classic Test mode in the Stability Test for 30 minutes.

Stability Test discharge 30 minutes 18:00–18:30

100% → 87%, power consumption 13%

King Glory (Ultra Clear High Frame Rate Mode) 1 hour 19:00–20:00

87% → 62%, power consumption 25%

Penguin game live (4G network) 1 hour 20:00–21:00

62% → 50%, 12% power consumption

iQiyi network video 1 hour 21:00–22:00

50% → 39%, power consumption 11%

Eventually, from 18:30 to 22:00 (30 minutes in the middle, cell phone standby), a series of tests, OPPO Reno standard version of the remaining 39%. The three-and-a-half-hour high-intensity use consumes 61% of the total electricity. The game takes up 41% of the power consumption.

In our daily use of mobile phones, some of the more power-hungry entertainment projects are probably the same, while others such as brushing WeChat Weibo, listening to music and taking photos, etc. add up to the power consumption will not be more than 30 minutes to discharge More.

Therefore, the conclusion is that, under normal use, the OPPO Reno Standard Edition is fully capable of maintaining the remaining power for one day. But if you play more than two hours a day, remember to bring your mobile power when you go out.

About ColorOS 6

ColorOS 6 is the system version officially released by OPPO on March 17 this year. It has made a lot of special designs for the full screen, which OPPO calls “Borderless Aesthetics”. Reno is the first model of the system.

The domestic system is based on deep customization, and it has done a good job in terms of ease of use and practicality. This is deeply appreciated after I have used non-domestic big-name Android phones for a long time. Therefore, there is basically no need to worry about system fluency, ease of use, and aesthetics (of course, aesthetics or turnip greens).

However, there are three places to say.

One is the drop-down shortcut. Above , ColorOS 6 uses a rounded square style, and different color labels are turned on. In this way, in fact, I often forget that my Wi-Fi is not open, is the brightness automatic? Why not use the same color labeling?

The second is the problem of brightness adjustment . The problem of automatic brightness actually exists in many of the phones I have used. You will find that the surrounding is very dark, clearly the automatic brightness you adjust, but the screen brightness of the phone has not dropped. This problem also exists in the OPPO Reno Standard Edition.

I originally thought that OPPO Reno’s light sensor was hidden in the module of the lifting camera. I thought it was wrong. I carefully looked at the OPPO official website and found the structure picture in the place where the Reno parameter was introduced. The light sensor is at the top of the screen.

Although the working logic of the light sensor looks smart, there are still many flaws if the details are buckled. As we all know, the light sensor will automatically increase the brightness of the screen under the strong light, and reduce the brightness under the dark light, but how does it take value? How to balance the external light with the screen brightness to the human eye, and there is a problem with comfort.

In contrast, the car’s light sensor is much simpler, as long as the light is turned on automatically in low-light conditions, it only involves a fixed ambient brightness.

OPPO Reno Standard Edition still has room for improvement in this respect, although in most cases, auto-sensing can be adjusted according to ambient light, but it is often not adjusted in time when the light and dark alternate, then you turn off the automatic brightness and then turn on After that, it can be adjusted again.

The third is the problem of interactive logic when the screen is in full screen (horizontal). OPPO Reno Standard does not switch the position of the gesture operation and the direction of the slide in the landscape mode. Switching the application or opening multitasking still requires gesture operation in a fixed position (the area below the screen). This can be optimized.

Full text summary

Overall, the experience is still a bit short. As an electronic product that is used by almost everyone in high-frequency in modern society, long-term use, loss and loss can not be underestimated. For example, after the battery is used for half a year and a half year, the degree of battery life is reduced; the long-term repeated use of the side-lift camera brings the problem of ashing… These all take longer to reach conclusions. And these are actually related to purchasing decisions.

Of course, the excellence of Reno itself is undeniable. The perfect comprehensive screen is really a good time to watch for a while, has always been cool.

From the release of R1 in 2013 to the release of the R17 series in 2018, this famous “singular system” has won several domestic mobile phone sales titles for a total of more than 100 million units. On the node where 5G is about to be commercialized in China, OPPO has made a big stroke and exchanged a Reno 8 generation product for a Reno. The determination is not too big. If the R series is turned on to change the volume of the OPPO mobile phone, then the ambition of the Reno series must be to make the OPPO “quality change”.

Of course, the mobile phone industry, which is fiercely competitive and strong, is not something that can be achieved by thinking about it. However, this also makes me look forward to the full range of Reno’s follow-up products.

Pros:

High screen accounted for full screen

Lifting camera highlights strength

Appearance (back) design has ideas

Cons:

Lifting camera’s ash problem

Light sensor algorithm needs to be optimized

The phone is a bit heavy

Not equipped with SuperVOOC
