When your two favorite YouTube stars team up for quick vlog or big project together, is it just because they like to hang out?

As you have probably guessed, the answer is more complex than that, but only slightly — the familiar subscriber-push at the end of the video tells most of the story. Collab videos are a great way to make an inroad with a new audience, but they can also have fun benefits for the viewer. After all, two heads are better than one.

As YouTuber Destin Sandlin suggested in a recent interview, YouTube collaboration can be like cross-pollination:

This cross pollination can have significant effects. According to socialblade.com, popular YouTube comedian Lilly Singh, better known as IISuperwomanII, has been consistently gaining subscribers at a rate of almost 4,000 day over the last several moths. In June 2014 — the month she released a collaboration video with top YouTube player Ryan Higa — her subs jumped to an average gain of 8,986 a day.

No wonder YouTube stars like to hang out!
