Some of us have figured out that buying bulk supplements instead of brand-name ones can save us a good amount of money. But how do these products compare on actual nutrition? We’ve done a quick analysis of the data:

Example 1:

Two protein isolate supplements — one bulk, one brand-name.

Now Sports Unflavored Protein Isolate (1.2 lbs) vs. Pure Bulk Protein Isolate 90%. Bulk vs. brand comparisons by concentration (not by serving because products had different serving recommendations.)

Example 2:

Two vitamin D supplements — one bulk, one brand-name.

Since Vitamin D3 is the only ingredient in these supplements, price was compared per 100,000 IU.

Nutrigold Vitamin D3 Gold — 1,000 IU (currently Labdoor’s #1 Best Value for Vitamin D) vs. Pure Bulk Vitamin D3. Capsule price based on Clear Gelatin Capsule Size 3.

Other Factors to Consider:

Regardless of bulk or brand-name status, you’ll see that almost all nutrition claims were practically the same in these product comparisons. The largest difference was in price — the brand name products cost a lot more than the bulk options.

Saving money is great; don’t get us wrong. But there are actually some hidden advantages to whichever option you choose. Here’s our summary to make your shopping easier:

Notes:

  • All comparisons are solely based on their nutritional label and their lowest price on Amazon.com or PureBulk’s website.
  • This analysis is not representative of all bulk and brand supplements. Other products may vary by price and nutritional labels, so you’ll need to do your own research for other supplements.
