The story behind our “Energy” video
To others, we might be a bunch of nerds that build apps and websites. In reality, we ARE a bunch of nerds building apps and websites. But we are so much more.
Breaking the stereotypes
We have a wonderful tradition at Label A. Every new team member gets the same first task on their first day: “Send an email to the entire team and share something personal, something interesting about yourself.”
Often the emails are fun, personal, open and surprising. These emails teach us time and time again that you can’t judge a book by its cover and that first impressions are usually wrong (or at least incomplete). Also, it teaches us straight away what someone is passionate about. We wanted to document this passion and the diversity within our team. The different things that drive us. The energy that we all feel and use for the things that are important to us. We wanted to capture that, and show it to the world.
Everyone has a story to tell
And so this project began. We started chatting on Slack: ‘hey, maybe a weird question, but do you have any hobbies that we don’t know about?’ At first people were a bit hesitant because of the randomness of the question but they did start sharing eventually, one by one. It felt like we opened the door to Narnia. Behind the sometimes quiet, shy, cool, tough, or ‘funny’ exteriors, we found some serious passion. We discovered so many things we didn’t know about our co-workers, things that people never would have guessed just from looking at them.
It started out as a joke, but it turned into an amazing project that truly captures the essence of Label A. Our energy. Our people. We ALL have a story worth telling. And these are some of the stories.
Although we are ‘a bunch of nerds’, we are also a million other things. We’re fathers. Fighters. Thrill-seekers. History enthusiasts. Craftsmen. Singers. Artists. Athletes. Bikers. Musicians…
… And more. And this is what we want to show to the world.
The people you see in the video are our real co-workers. They are designers and developers that work for Label A. We portraid them carrying out their passion, in a setting that inspires them. And this is the result:
