Disruption- It’s In Our DNA

The creators of D/sruption magazine asked us to help curate their first large scale event — Disruption Summit Europe. The aim was to build on their already strong network created from the magazine.

An Inspiring Brief

Our brief was to curate, collate and build an inspirational day. Working with our client’s teams to curate the narrative flow, identify and manage the speakers and create the marketing presence towards the build up, during and after the event. Aimed at C suite level the aim was to attract over 400 attendees on the day and starting the kinds of conversations that lead to true innovation.

It’s What We Do

Over the past twelve years, we’ve been producing major events twice a year. We always do them with a passion but more importantly with purpose. The events we create have to solve the challenge we’ve been given. We’ve been privileged to do this at the leading edge — exploring the full range of innovations, technologies and movements.

So, 500+ attendees and a full schedule of speakers and exhibitors — an advanced event programme and conversational narrative is not something new to us.

The Conference Programme

Developing the conference programme to ensure a strong narrative and flow.

The event itself already had a pre-existing base structure and a narrative that fit well against their target audience — the C suite. We started working alongside this and the positioning of the Magazine to develop a strong narrative and flow. Our aim was to ensure that every attendee would leave having learned something new and understood what they had heard.

A Focus On NOW

We had a real focus on ‘now’*. We wanted to make this practical and resonant with real business people working in the real world. We deliberately avoided looking too far into the theoretical future of technology and innovation.

* We ensured that all the conversations throughout the event remained grounded, but inspirational enough to be achieved today. Featuring topics from AI, Blockchain, Virtual Reality and more.

Speakers

Researching and booking speakers to inspire and excite.

Our criteria were simple:

  • Great Speakers: Every single member of the audience should be engaged by curating a relevant and meaningful line up of speakers.
  • The Right Mix Of Content: We would ensure a balance — a range of house-hold names, startups, entrepreneurs, innovators and change-makers. A diverse balance helps the corporate audience understand the range of possible opportunities. The full list here.
  • Conversations That Matter: The overall experience would cater for everyone — our guiding mantra was to ‘blow everyone away’ with the experience, the immersive nature of the event and mostly the strength of conversations unfolding in front of the delegates.

Build Up & Marketing

Social media and marketing skills within the Lab For Hire & Co. are extensive and they allow us to help develop the buzz and the reach of the event well before, during and after it happened.

With a reach of hundreds of thousands through our social channels we were able to combine our forces with that of the D/sruption team and the existing D/sruption Magazine base.

In reality we had begun the conversations and build up from day one.

Events Are Social

We don’t believe an event can exist in isolation. These days every channel has to play its part. For example — during the event, the power of live tweeting quickly took the event to number 2 in Twitter’s trending index and caught the attention of many who weren’t even there on the day.

Speaker Management

And finally, it all comes together. Having forged the correct connections with a robust and diverse speaker list, we co-ordinated pre-event speaker profiles, interviews and articles for use across the Disruption Summit Europe online channels and platforms.

On the day, with two parallel tracks running in tandem, keeping to time was vital. Delegates would need to be able to move between stages in order to make the most of their day. Our speaker and stage management allowed us to continue the connection with the speakers right through to the stage.

Post Event Review

An overall and massive success for everyone who was involved in the project. Being the first Disruption Summit Europe event, we’ve set a high standard for the future.

“Working with the D/sruption* team was a genuine pleasure from start to finish. They allowed us the space and freedom to bring new thinking, explore options and suggest aspects not considered previously. Exactly the kind of trust we love with a client and the type of project Lab For Hire & Co. lives to be involved with.” — Nicole Yershon Founder & CEO Lab For Hire & Co.

* An ongoing partnership between D/sruption and Lab For Hire & Co. is underway. We look forward to working with them far more in the future.
