Federal Labor today acknowledged the contribution of Craig Wallace, who has announced he was stepping down as president of People with Disability Australia (PWDA).

Shadow disability reform minister Jenny Macklin said Wallace played an important role in the debate on the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) during his four years as president.

“Craig played an important role in the debate on the NDIS, elevated PWDA to the status of a leading disability advocacy body and successfully opposed attempts by the Abbott-Turnbull government to cut the Disability Support Pension in the 2014 Budget,” Macklin said.

“Craig’s success as PWDA president can be attributed to his capacity for hard work and his determination to see Australians with disability seize the opportunities of the future.

“Significant contribution of Craig Wallace during his time as president.”

“Craig was also responsible for growing PWDA’s membership by offering free online membership andsocial media forums that have enabled the organisation to become stronger and more inclusive,” she said.

The shadow minister welcomed the announcement that Bonnie Millen has been elected by the PWDA board to be acting president.

“Once again, federal Labor acknowledges the significant contribution of Craig Wallace during his time as president of People with Disability Australia,” she added.
