The U.S. News Best Jobs of 2018 list has been released, showing that Software Developer takes the cake at Number One.
The researchers looked at factors like growth, work-life balance, and median salary, among others, and used data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
These roles claimed the top 10 slots out of 100, according to the publication’s rankings.
1.) Software Developer
U.S. News reports that the median salary is $100,080, and the unemployment rate is 1.6%. The total score is 8.3 out of 10.
“Software developers are the creative minds behind computer programs. Some develop the applications that allow people to do specific tasks on a computer or another device. Others develop the underlying systems that run the devices or that control networks,” according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
2.) Dentist
With a median salary of $153,900, an unemployment rate of 0.4%, and a total score of 8.2 out of 10, dentists come in second.
3.) Physician Assistant
This job has a median salary of $101, 480, an unemployment rate of 0.7%, and a total score of 8.2 out of 10. People in this role do things like help out during surgery, tell patients what sicknesses they have and more, and they carry out their work “under the supervision of a licensed physician or surgeon,” according to U.S. News.
4.) Nurse Practitioner
The median salary is reportedly $100,910, the unemployment rate is 7%, and the total score is 8.2 out of 10.
“Nurse anesthetists, nurse midwives, and nurse practitioners, also referred to as advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs), coordinate patient care and may provide primary and specialty healthcare. The scope of practice varies from state to state,” the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports.
5.) Orthodontist
This role has a hefty median salary of $208,000, the unemployment rate is 0.4%, and the total score is 8.1 out of 10.
They aim to fix and keep jaws working properly and improve teeth after looking in patients’ mouths and jaws — they are “dental specialists who remedy problems with improper bites and askew teeth,” according to U.S. News.
6.) Statistician
People with this job rake in a median salary of $80,500, the unemployment rate is 1.4%, and the total score is 7.9 out of 10.
“Mathematicians and statisticians analyze data and apply mathematical and statistical techniques to help solve real-world problems in business, engineering, healthcare, or other fields,” the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports.
7.) Pediatrician
The median salary for this job is $168,990, the unemployment rate is 0.5%, and the total score is 7.8 out pf 10.
8.) Obstetrician and Gynecologist (tie)
With a median salary of $208,000, an unemployment rate of 0.5%, and a total score of 7.7 out of 10, people in this role deliver children, among other services for women’s reproductive health, U.S. News reports.
8.) Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon (tie)
This role has a median salary of $208,00, an unemployment rate of 0.5%, and a total score of 7.7 out of 10. People in this role operate on the jaw, mouth, and face, among other responsibilities, U.S. News reports.
8.) Physician (tie)
These doctors have a median salary of $196,380, an unemployment rate of 0.5%, and a total score of 7.7 out of 10.
