“Wait, You Have More Than One Job?” Asks Concerned Family Friend Who Lives in a Mansion
“I’m a simple woman,” laughs Grace a 65 year old Family friend (everyone seems to have) who lives in a mansion. “I never had to work so much so that my feet ache. I guess I lucked out…. Why do you have bags under your eyes, sweetheart?”
This is a conversation most of us have to endure during the holidays but thank god for wine, amirite?
“But enough about me, how are you doing?” she asks finally looking away from her own reflection. “I’m okay, I respond. Super tired.” Grace then looked at me thoughtfully and said, “Why?”
This is something I had been avoiding for years since I realized nobody older than 38 could ever understand the next thing I was about to say.
“I’ve just been working a lot” I said.
“Where?” She chuckled.
“AT MY THREE JOBS.” I cried.
This is when Grace’s face fell and became the whitest white I have ever seen (which was a lot because she’s pretty white). She swallowed. “You mean you have more than one job, honey?”
“Yes.” I replied finishing the rest of my red wine. “And they are all under $16 an hour.”
Grace then breathed the last breath she would ever breathe before saying, “I have no concept of this!”
