We love being in love. When we get into new relationships, we get excited to do and be all the things to our partners. Those who move too quickly, though, risk landing themselves right into the heart of an enmeshed relationship. You know the type. The couple who can never be separated. The couple that is defined by their relationship, or incapable of deciding without each other. Are you in an enmeshed relationship? Be careful. The signs are often a series of patterns that are easy to slip into when you’re in love.
Signs of an enmeshed relationship.
Enmeshment is all about a certain kind of toxic codependence. The enmeshed couple is totally defined by their relationship with one another. They are a tangle of feelings with zero alone time. Usually, they even go so far as to socially isolate themselves from their own friends and family. Enmeshed relationships aren’t sweet or cute (despite what you may think). They are hazardous and soul-destroying. When we’re in an enmeshed relationship, we totally lose sight of who and what we are.
