Who doesn’t love falling in love? Meeting someone new is an exhilarating thrill, and that thrill continues as we get to know them and explore their innermost secrets. We don’t always fall for the right people, however, and can soon find ourselves in a strange state of limbo. Is something just not right about your new relationship? Do things feel forced or “off” in an unusual way? This can be early warning signs that you’re not quite compatible.

Compatibility is so important, but we often overlook or ignore it in the early days. We want so badly for things to work that we ignore some critical factors that might otherwise foreshadow a less-than-desirable end. We turn our back on red flags and ignore crucial conversations — all in the name of keeping our rose-tinted glasses securely fastened. This ignorance can’t last forever, though. One way or the other, you both will be forced to admit the truth: You simply aren’t compatible.

Wanting something doesn’t make it so.
