I Will Now Ramble About Basketball for a Minute
As has been well established, I know nothing about college basketball. So, the off-season offers very little for me. I know a lot of people do scouting and look at stats, but man, that bores me. I’m just here for the games. I know a lot of people love their teams and only want the best players on the team so that it does well, but when I do that I feel like it sorta takes away from the experience.
Have you ever just played a pickup game of basketball with a few friends? It’s a lot of fun. My friends and I would play two on two all the time. My one friend is much bigger and taller than me, and I was trash close to the net. So we’d run the game with me making mid-long range shots and he would go in close. That was the best strategy we had, and man was it fun. I get that same feeling watching a game. It’s just fun to watch people play the game. I definitely wouldn’t be having that much fun if I was concerned about stats or what this meant for the team. But again, that’s just me.
What I’m trying to say is, don’t get so wrapped up in things that you forget what made you fall in love with the game. If you just so happen to love statistics and think of me as some dumbass, then so be it. I definitely won’t argue with you. My concern is that you become someone who doesn’t even remember why they loved watching in the first place. Don’t do something for the sake of doing it, do it because you’re passionate about it. If you love Syracuse basketball, then you’ll stick with them through thick and thin. That’s all that matters anyway.
