Syracuse women’s basketball to face UConn in national championship

Now that the Syracuse men’s basketball team was ousted by UNC on Saturday, Cuse fans can turn their attention to their particularly talented women’s basketball team. The women’s team beat Washington tonight 80–59 to advance to the national championship game against an undefeated UConn team.

UConn is seeking their fourth straight national title, but they will have to go through a Cuse team carrying their momentum from a blowout win, along with Briana Butler setting an NCAA record for three-pointers with 128 during this season alone.

The Orange (30–7) were offensively propelled by Alexis Peterson, who had 18 points, and Brittney Sykes with 17.

UConn has been the most dominant force in women’s college basketball in recent memory, and they will definitely have an advantage because they are no stranger to national championship appearances.

The discussion surrounding UConn as of recent hasn’t been about how impressive their constant success is, but how their dominance has brought down the entertainment level of the game and eliminates the element of competition from the sport. Will Syracuse be the team to change this? Or will the Huskies continue to own the sport?

Stranger things have happened in college sports, and if anyone can pull off an upset of this caliber, its Syracuse. We would be stupid to doubt any SU team, because if you’re a fan of anything Cuse related, you know the second you begin to doubt your team is the second that they shock the world with their unexpected surges of success.

So, upstaters, lets cross our fingers, wear our orange from head to toe, and hope that the SU women can dethrone the matriarch of women’s college basketball.
