What led you to become a product ops?

Last December, when the government announced that the non-floral merchants weren’t allowed to participate in the lunar new year market due to Covid, I thought maybe I should create a platform enabling merchants to sell their products online especially those who have already produced products but nowhere to sell it. I immediately started the preparation work from creating the online marketplace, pitch & onboard merchants, social media marketing, logistics, etc.

After a hustling 1.5 months, the online lunar new year marketplace was finally born as a proof of concept!

And it failed. Or I would say something went wrong.

The online site traffic was actually booming, however the conversion rate was awfully low and the sales of course wasn’t good. I’ve done some research afterward trying to figure out the reason behind the failure and realized it was the lack of design thinking throughout the process when developing the marketplace. This is where I started to learn about product management and find it interesting.

A few months later, here I am as the product operations associate trying to build my product foundation and hopefully making a difference on the to-be world-class product team.

What does a typical day look like?

Wake up > exercise (i’m building the habit) > listen to music/podcast on my way to work > breakfast at the office > work & learn to build world-class product > lunch > continue to work & learn > dinner > reading (sometimes) > chilling > sleep

Name three people or things you feel inspired when creating a product.

“Zero to One” by Peter Thiel

“Inspired” by Marty Cagan (reading)

Family and friends.

What would your self-portrait look like?

Definitely smiling
