Former Radford head coach Byron Samuels is expected to join Coach Gee’s staff.[/caption]

Byron Samuels is expected to join Coach Gee’s staff and he has been on Longwood’s campus much of the week. Samuels is the former head coach of Big South rival Radford and also spent two years as the head coach at Hampton.

Samuels lead the Highlanders for five years and his best season came in 2005–06 when he lead Radford to a 16–13 mark. It was one of three winning seasons Radford has had in the past 10 years. Before coming to Radford, Samuels was an assistant at Tulsa, Western Carolina, Washington State, UNC Wilmington, and Tennessee. After his career at Radford, Samuels became an assistant at South Florida and has spent the past couple of years in the private sector.

Not only does Samuels have knowledge of the Big South from his time at Radford, but he’s also a graduate of UNC Asheville. Surely his local connections and vast coaching experience will make him a great addition to Coach Gee’s staff.

In other coaching news, Longwood assistant Ricky Yahn is expected to be retained on Gee’s staff.
