Men’s Soccer (1–6–1, 0–1): It was a rough September for the men’s soccer team and that really showed when the NCAA released it’s first glance at the RPI rankings mid-week as Longwood ranked as the eighth worst team in the country. The Lancers were in a similar situation a year ago but caught fire in conference finishing the season 7–9–4 after starting out 1–4–3. Jon Atkinson squad is now looking to do that again and had a good showing against the nation’s tenth ranked team in the RPI Winthrop. Winthrop head coach Rich Posipanko had promising words after the 3–2 win.

“We are pleased to get the three points tonight. Longwood is much better than their record indicates. However, I feel we made the game closer by not finishing our chances. Our finishing was below par tonight and inability to clear the ball put us in a bit of trouble tonight.”

Longwood will look to turn their season around with a pair of Big South affairs this week at home and on the road.

Last Week: L 3–2 (OT) vs George Washington, L 3–2 at Winthrop
This Week: 10/8 vs Radford, 10/11 at High Point

Women’s Soccer (6–5–1, 1–2): After throttling Division I independent Francis Marion early in the week, the Lady Lancers simply didn’t show up for a road match up with rival Radford taking a 5–1 loss of their own. Todd Dyer’s squad will look to rebound this week with a trip to High Point before starting a three game home-stand with Gardner-Webb this weekend.

Last Week: W 5–1 vs Francis Marion, L 5–1 at Radford
This Week: 10/8 at High Point, 10/11 vs Gardner-Webb

Field Hockey (4–8, 1–3): Longwood fell to Liberty 8–1 and then their overtime heartbreak continued with a 4–3 MAC loss to Central Michigan. The overtime loss was the fourth this year for the Lancers, who dropped to 1–3 in MAC play. Longwood will now welcome the nation’s top ranked team, North Carolina, to Farmville for a Friday match up with the Tar Heels.

Last Week: L 8–1 at Liberty, L 4–3 (OT) at Central Michigan
This Week: 10/10 vs #1 North Carolina
