We mentioned in our game preview that you never know what you’re going to get in these postseason tournaments in terms of the attitudes of teams. Southern Miss didn’t show up Wednesday night and Longwood looked laser focused knocking off the Golden Eagles 90–68 in a signature win for the Lancers.

Longwood hit 18 threes in knocking off their Conference USA foe. Jaylon Wilson lead the way for the Lancers with 23 points and 8 rebounds. Shabooty Phillips added 19 points and 7 assists, while JaShaun Smith (12) and Damarion Geter (11) both scored in double-digits.

A couple of observations from the win. 1) It was the most fun I’ve seen a Lancer fan have on the court. 2) Aldrich opted for a lot tighter rotation tonight not playing Pernell Adgei and really restricting the minutes of Sean Flood and Gus Okafor.

Longwood’s incredible effort means they are onto the CBI quarterfinal round where they will take on DePaul from the Big East Conference on Monday night in Chicago. The Lancers would have hosted Central Michigan if they would have knocked off the Blue Demons.

After tonight’s game, Griff Aldrich took to the Willett Hall mic to thank the fan and more importantly to thank Longwood’s seniors. Aldrich not only highlighted Damarion Geter and Spencer Franklin, but also gave a heartfelt shoutout to Isaiah Walton, who left the team last month. He also reiterated that Longwood’s ultimate goal is to make it to the NCAA Tournament.
