After knocking off Liberty 4–2 Sunday afternoon for their third straight Big South title and fourth championship in five years, Longwood Softball will be traveling to a familiar venue for the 2017 NCAA Softball Regionals.

The Lancers are headed back to Knoxville for the third time out of their four NCAA Tournament trips and will take on the host #8 Volunteers at 7 PM on Friday night and will be televised on ESPN2. Longwood lost to Tennessee 2–0 two years ago and lost 9–0 in five innings during their first NCAA trip.

Joining the Lancers and Vols in Knoxville will be Atlantic Sun champion USC Upstate (44–11) and Big Ten power Ohio State (35–16). The Buckeyes lost to Minnesota in the Big Ten Championship this past weekend 6–0.

During their three previous NCAA appearances Longwood entered with records of 41–18, 33–23, 38–18. The Lancers are just 28–27 heading into the regional this year, but the team is hot winning 12 out of their last 14 games. Longwood is also averaging nearly 5 runs per game over that span, up a bit from slow offensive numbers throughout the season.
