In a move that has been rumored quietly for a while, rising junior point guard Lucas Woodhouse is leaving the Longwood program and has been issued his release.

Woodhouse lead the Big South in assists this year with 6.7 per game and is currently tied for fifth in the country. Lucas also averaged 11.5 points per game and had game winners versus TCU and Liberty.

Woodhouse’s departure has been rumored for awhile but his comments at the conclusion after the Big South Tournament seemed to lean towards him staying at Farmville:

“The program is just going to skyrocket. Coach Gee knows what he’s doing with recruiting and we’re going to get guys in here.”

Although Longwood loses a tremendous point guard and a school record holder this gives Coach Jayson Gee an opportunity to find a point guard who fits his PACE scheme. UAB transfer Quincy Taylor is expected to step into Lucas’ starting role.
