Matty Moss too much for Lancers

Longwood opened their NCAA Regional quest yesterday against host and #8 seed Tennessee in Knoxville. The Lancers fell 5–0 and the story was clearly the Vols sophomore hurler Matty Moss.

Moss came into the game with a 1.74 ERA and totally shutdown the Lancers only allowing one hit and striking out 10.

The loss sends 28–28 Longwood to the losers bracket where they will play Ohio State. The Buckeyes are 35–17 coming into Saturday’s match up and the Big Ten runners ups.

Ohio State imploded on Friday in a match up with USC Upstate. OSU went into the seventh inning up 3–2 but surrendered three errors in the inning (while blaming field conditions) and eventually losing 7–3 to the Atlantic Sun champs.

Longwood’s will look to solidify a .500 season with a win today and hopefully extend their season to play the loser of USC Upstate and Tennessee. Today’s game will be at 2:30 PM and will be streamed on ESPN3.
