Baseball (6–11)

Longwood finished their eight game road trip this week with a 4–4 mark. On the surface that seems like a mildly successful swing, but the Lancers definitely left some games on the table this week.

First came a six run seventh inning that doomed Longwood at USC Upstate. Then the next day Wofford snuck past the Lancers 6–5 on an error laden game in Spartanburg.

To finish the week Longwood travelled to UNC Wilmington to take on one of the region’s top teams and the preseason CAA favorites. Ryan Mau’s squad was able to steal one win with a 10 strikeout performance from Cody Wager on Saturday for a 5–3 win.

As Mau continues to shape his pitching rotation, Wager is now 2–2 with a 6.63 ERA. In his last two outings he has thrown nearly 13 innings, given up 5 earned runs, and registered 15 strikeouts. Zach Potojecki has not pitched since his 13 strikeout performance at Savannah State last week.

This week is when things start to count for Longwood as they begin Big South play with a four-game homestand.

Last Week: L 10–5 at USC Upstate, L 6–5 at Wofford, L 7–3, W 5–3, L 11–1 at UNCW
This Week: 3/15 vs St. Josephs, 3/17–19 vs Charleston Southern

Softball (7–14)

It was another rough week for the Big South preseason favorites as they travelled to California for the Louisville Slugger Invitational. Longwood won their opening game against Eastern Michigan but then lost the remaining four games of the tournament. Two of the losses, Cal State Fullerton and Harvard, were just by a single run.

The “preseason” is over for Kathy Riley and now it’s time to win as Longwood travels to Campbell to kick off conference play.

Last Week: W 8–1 vs Eastern Michigan, L 8–0 vs #10 UCLA, L 5–1 vs San Diego State, L 2–1 vs Cal State Fullerton, L 3–2 vs Harvard
This Week: 3/18–19 at Campbell

Lacrosse (4–3)

Longwood Lax continued their strong start to the season with a 13–8 home win against Atlantic 10 member St. Bonaventure. Molly Barkman scored four goals for the Lancers and has now registered eight on the season.

The Lancers head north for a road trip next week to UMBC and St. Francis (PA).

Last Week: W 13–8 vs St. Bonaventure
This Week: 3/15 at UMBC, 3/19 at St. Francis (PA)
