Baseball (8–12, 2–1)

A soggy week cancelled Longwood’s mid-week match up against St. Joseph’s but the Lancers got back on the diamond at the Bud this weekend and took their first conference series win of the year against Charleston Southern.

Pitching was the story in Longwood’s wins over the Bucs this week. Devin Gould got the nod on Friday night and went 7 2/3 innings with two earned runs and five strikeouts. Cody Wager scored his third win of the year on Saturday going 8 1/3 innings with no earned runs and 10 strikeouts. Michael Catlin slammed the on CSU with a strikeout and his second save of the season.

Longwood nearly swept the series losing 9–8 in extra innings on Sunday.

Ryan Mau’s squad now has nine of their next 10 games on the road beginning Tuesday with a short trip to Richmond to take on VCU and a weekend series at rival Radford.

Last Week: W 7–2, W 1–0, L 8–7 vs Charleston Southern
This Week: 3/21 at VCU, 3/24–26 at Radford

Softball (8–17, 1–2)

It’s not time to panic yet, but it’s getting close! Longwood lost their first Big South series of the year and the Lancers were out-scored 25–18 at Campbell, who was picked to finish third in the conference this year. Nine of the Camels runs in the series were unearned and Biz McCarthy only appeared in relief roles this past weekend.

Kathy Riley’s squad has the week off, in terms of Big South play, but will host a doubleheader against Towson this week.

Last Week: W 7–6, L 10–9, L 9–2 at Campbell
This Week: 3/22 vs Towson (DH)

Lacrosse (4–5)

The Lacrosse team dropped back below .500 with a pair of road losses to UMBC and St. Francis (PA). The St. Francis loss was especially painful as it was a 13–12 overtime loss.

Longwood will look to battle back to .500 this week when they host George Mason on Friday.

Last Week: L 17–5 at UMBC, L 13–12 at St. Francis PA
This Week: 3/25 vs George Mason

Men’s Tennis (9–2, 3–1)

We usually don’t talk too much about the individualized sports like golf, tennis, and cross country, but the men’s tennis team at Longwood deserves a shoutout. The program is off the a historic 9–2 start and is 3–1 in Big South play.

The team has already beat Liberty and Winthrop on the road and has a chance to be a serious contender at the Big South Tournament in mid-April. Conference matches against Radford, Gardner-Webb, and Presbyterian still remain before the tournament.
