Longwood is expected to add some veteran experience to the bench in the expected hire of former Division I head coach Tim Carter.[/caption]

Coach Jayson Gee is set to name former Division I head coach Tim Carter to his staff according to multiple sources. Carter most recently was the head coach at South Carolina State from 2008 to 2013, when he resigned. Before coming to South Carolina State he was a bit of a legend in the Southland Conference where he was the all-time winningest coach in Texas-San Antonio history with a 160–152 mark. He even lead the Roadrunners to the NCAA Tournament in 1999 and 2004.

Carter was also the head coach at Nebraska-Omaha for the 1994–95 season before going to UTSA. He served as an assistant at Oklahoma, Midwestern State, Oklahoma State, Houston, and Northwestern before becoming a head coach and most recently sat on Leonard Hamilton’s bench at Florida State as an assistant during the 2006–07 season.

Needless to say the 58 year old coach brings a lot of experience that will be valuable to the Lancers bench. Carter has also served the as Board Director for the National Association of Basketball Coaches and has won the “Tom Landry Award”, the highest award received from the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Organization.

Carter faced Longwood three times as head coach at South Carolina State with a 1–2 mark as both teams won at home and Longwood picked up an extra win in the Las Vegas Invitational in 2010.
