You’d thought it would have been a slow week on campus last week with exams but plenty of exciting things went down for Longwood Athletics.

Baseball (20–26, 8–13): Brian McCullough’s primary focus has to be getting into the Big South Tournament and chasing down the Gardner-Webb Bulldogs, but this week the Lancers took a break from the Big South grind to take on the Duke Blue Devils in a three game set. Longwood fell in Game 1 versus the ACC foe but then a brilliant pitching performance by Aaron Myers, Scott Burkett, and Mitchell Kuebbing allowed the Lancers to steal a Game 2 victory. Longwood’s win over the Blue Devils is the second win over a major conference opponent on the road in two years, last season the Lancers took down Tennessee. Longwood will close their series with Duke today and need to focus on a pivotal series with High Point this weekend.

Last Week: L 10–4, W 2–1 at Duke
This Week: 5/5 at Duke, 5/6 at George Mason, 5/9–11 vs High Point

Softball (38–14, 17–6): Longwood softball locked up the #2 seed in the Big South Tournament by sweeping Radford this past weekend. The defending champs will head down to Conway, South Carolina for the tournament and will face Charleston Southern in the first round, a team the Lancers swept in their season series this year. Kathy Riley has to be going down to Coastal looking for a little revenge on the first seeded Chanticleers.

Last Week: W 2–1, W 4–0, W 3–1 vs Radford
This Week: 5/8–11 at Big South Tournament (5/8 vs Charleston Southern)

Lacrosse (9–10, 5–2): For the second year in a row Longwood Lacrosse was bounced in the Big South semifinals. Longwood throttled Campbell 18–7 in the conference quarterfinals but then fell to #2 Davidson 12–9 in the seminfinals, being held at High Point. The Lancers are slated to lose just three seniors from this past years squad and should be in position to challenge in the Big South again next year.

Last Week: W 18–7 vs #6 Campbell, L 12–9 vs #2 Davidson (N)
