Bug Appétit Anyone??

I hope everyone has had a great summer, we are back with another installment of future of foods and this week we are going to look at the company Chirp Chips.

In short Chirps are chips made with cricket flour. Why crickets? because crickets are full of nutrients and a sustainable solution to many other problems as well.

At Chirps they not only want to market their chips but they also don’t want to hide from the fact that they use cricket flour.

At Chirps, we want to get people excited about eating bugs!
When we first started Chirps, many people told us to hide the fact that our foods have bugs and just talk about the nutritional benefits. That’s not us. We started Chirps because we want people to know that bugs are delicious, nutritious, and sustainable.
What’s cool about bugs like crickets is that they can be raised in cities, unlike most farm animals. That way, we can use less land and reduce the distance from farm to table. Plus, crickets can be fed on excess produce would normally be thrown out, helping us reduce some of the 60M tons of food waste produced in the US each year. So join us and #eatbugs.

Food waste, water conservation, land conservation these are all not issues that you would think cricket flour would be able to effect. However all these are the very reason why people are starting to get hip to Chirps.

Chirps has been featured in the NY Times and LA Times. Check out the Chirps website to find out more and to try a bag (bug?) for yourself. Till next time!

Stay Groovy
