I gulp your glorious chords this June
morning, see yellow throats stretch
from earth toward a worn fence.
Silence is imminent. Thirst comes next.

Your buttery elegance will close.
Others stand ready to assume
a garden song.
Mouths closed now. They listen.

Daily courage without anxiety. Just lush
June melodies sound and soak
intertwined stalks holding you upright.

I know a kinship with you these days,
know the tempo of your golden hymn,
brief but resonant.
