This Friday, Oakland author Tommy Orange will be in conversation with Oakland’s Youth Poet Laureate, Samuel Getachew, at the Oakland Museum of California (OMCA) to discuss Orange’s debut novel “There There,” which takes place in Oakland and depicts the Native American experience in the Bay Area. The novel was nominated for a 2019 Pulitzer Prize and has been a best seller since its release, catapulting Oakland-born Orange to the international stage. In conjunction with the Oakland Public Library and the San Francisco Public Library, this program is part of a series of National Native American History Month events.

The event is free to attend and will be held in OMCA’s James Moore Theater from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis, so early arrival is encouraged. For students of the Peralta colleges, OMCA is in close proximity to Laney Campus, and this event is not to be missed. If you are unable to attend Nov. 1, be sure to check out the Laney Tower next week for our detailed coverage.
