“To Infinity and Beyond: The Math and Science Behind Pixar Films”, presented by Danielle Feinberg, director of photography for lighting at Pixar Studios, 6:30 p.m., Wed., Oct. 21 will examine a series of problems faced while making various Pixar films and how Pixar Animation Scientists use math and science to save the day! The free and open to the public presentation takes place at Berkeley City College’s auditorium, 2050 Center St. between Shattuck Ave. & Milvia Sts. Feinberg began her career at Pixar Animation Studios in February 1997 on the feature film A Bug’s Life. She quickly discovered her love for lighting and went on to light on many of Pixar’s feature films including Toy Story 2, Monsters, Inc., the Academy Award®-winning Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Ratatouille and WALL•E. Most recently, Feinberg completed work as the Director of Photography for Lighting on Disney•Pixar’s Academy Award®-winning Brave, and is now working on a future Pixar film.

“Campus Equity Week” (Oct. 26–30)
Watch the recently completed documentary entitled :Freeway Fliers.” The film was done by a part-time faculty member in Southern California, with interviews of part-time faculty members in community colleges across the state.
The subject matter of the film — the intertwining of teaching and learning within the context of differential employment status — involves all sectors of community colleges — — faculty (of course), students, staff, administrators, trustees. Chancellor Laguerre, as well as the filmmaker, will be in attendance at the screening for a discussion of the film as well as the subject of equity in our corner of the community college world. It would very useful, I think, if faculty members would invite students in their classes (the social sciences, humanities, life and the other sciences, CTE, etc.) to attend, think about the film and participate in the discussion about the issues raised in the film. — Cynthia Mahabir
