Eagles’ baseball focus now is just one victory

Losing streak reaches 12 games with defeat at Folsom Lake College

What was a fine trip to begin with has turned into a long depressing spiral for the Laney College baseball team.
With a 4–3 loss at Bay Valley Conference newcomer Folsom Lake College on March 24, the Eagles have now lost 12 straight games, including 11 in the BVC.
The team has lost three starting pitchers (Niko Loza, Matt Pomykala, Ben Clegg) to various arm and elbow injuries and they may not play again this season.
“I’ve had teams that have lost more games,” said Francisco Zapata, now in his 15th year as head coach, but we have some talent on this team.
“Our focus is to get just one win; if we can do that we can get some confidence back.”
Laney won eight of 12 non-conference games to start the season, with the last victory coming on Feb. 19, an 8–3 home win over Canada College. But since then, it has been
nothing but frustration for the 8–15 Eagles.
There are 13 BVC games left to play and with contention out of the question, Laney can only hope to play a spoiler role.
Laney gets another crack at the Falcons, this time at home, on Thursday, March 26, at 2:30 p.m.
