Welcome Fall 2014 Students, I would like to update a situation regarding the AC Transit EasyPass student bus pass issue and delays.

The semester officially began August 18; the issuance of passes has been delayed due to the necessary pass cards not being available to attach the student’s identification picture.

Unfortunately, students who need this allowance to reduce the amount of bus fare paid to get to and from the campus will have to pay full fare until further notice.

Students who enroll and take a minimum of nine units or more must automatically pay a fee of $36 each semester. This fee is included in class registration fees.

Yes, you can save over 90 percent of local and Transbay service fees by using the EasyPass.

If you were not aware of the discount, it’s a tremendous saving when compared to paying full fare each trip — you should become interested.

I asked the available student assistant if he knew when this “technical issue” would be resolved; he said to “try again next week.”

To get the pass, have your photograph taken for a student identification card and then bring the photo ID to the campus cashier office located in the A building, second floor.

The clerk will advise you what happens next. Be prepared for the process to take a couple of weeks since the picture has to be sent to local transit authorities, and then sent back to Laney campus to be picked up by the student.

Good luck to all students considering this and all other issues of concern on campus this year.
