Laney College’s Cosmetology Department is holding a charity cut-a-thon Oct. 22 in room B100, which will benefit Look Good Feel Better, a nonprofit serving women suffering from cancer.

Seasoned cosmetology students will provide haircuts, manicures, heat styling and makeup services. They will also apply hair embellishments and glitter tattoos, in honor of breast cancer awareness.

The Laney Bistro is providing cupcakes and other treats for customers to enjoy.

This isn’t the first charity organization the cosmetology department has been involved with: upper-class instructor Petra Schontges encourages her students to get involved in the community regularly. Last semester, they benefitted research for multiple sclerosis.

The department recommends a donation of $10 for all of their available services.

A portion of the cut-a-thon’s proceeds will go to Look Good Feel Better’s efforts towards helping women cope with the changes in appearance that often follow a cancer diagnosis.

The cut-a-thon will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 22.
