Laney Football wins first home game 60–14

OAKLAND–Current statewide champions Laney Eagles played against Feather River Community College’s Golden Eagles on Sept. 20 at Laney College for another win, 60–14, in their first home game of the season.

The skill of the team showed as they scored a touchdown within the first five minutes of the game. Under coach John Beam’s leadership, the success of Laney’s football team attracted the attention of Netflix. The team is currently being followed by a film crew for a documentary called “Last Chance U.”

Quarterback Dior Walker-Scott completed 6 of 8 for 29 yards, and his longest completion was 10 yards. In addition, he threw two touchdowns.

With a total of 165 yards, running back Tyrell Smith gripped 18 catches. Smith’s average on the drive was 9.2 yards, and his long yard was 49. He also caught three touchdowns in the game.

Running back Harold Tidwell attempted 10 catches with a total of 111 yards, and his average was 11.1. His long run was 73, and he scored two touchdowns.

With 34 points at halftime, Laney had the upper hand, building momentum for the rest of the game.

Laney’s solid defensive performance limited Feather River to scoring two touchdowns.
