The Student Center has ongoing repairs. The front handicap doors are again operational, and the bidding process has begun for a complete replacement project, said Amy Marshall, director of facilities and college operations at Laney College.

“A request for bids on new doors will go out in early March, and we expect them to be replaced before the end of the semester,” she said.

The Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning (HVAC) system has been non-operational for the entire Student Center building since a power outage in Fall of 2018.

The lack of heat this winter has affected those who use the building, especially on the upper floors. The Veterans Affairs office chose to move out of the fourth floor office and into another building, partly due to the lack of heat, said ASLC President Dagnachew Sibhat.

“The heat issue in the Student Center is directly related to an electrical problem and has gone out to bid,” Marshall said. “We hope to have this work completed by spring break.”
