We visited Laney College campus to ask students questions about textbooks.

Mercedes Cordova — Natural Science Major.

What do you think about textbooks here at Laney?

“They should definitely be covered with the tuition that you pay for at Laney, at least, like, some discount.”

Kevin Nguyen — Biochemistry.

What is the most that you’ve ever had to pay for a textbook?

“It would be around, maybe $120. In a semester, I’m guessing $150.”

Maria Rogers — Theater.

Have you ever had to buy a textbook that your teacher wrote?

“Like if we actually need the textbook make sure that what we’re doing, like, pertains to the textbook because I’ve had like professors and they’re like, ‘oh buy this book’ and it’s like, okay. We didn’t even touch it.”

Ayele Agbobly — Undeclared.

What is the most that you’ve ever had to pay for a textbook?

“This semester, I think $200 because my math book is free this year. I just paid for my Geography book. Oh, no, $230 because I got a Geography lab and that comes with a little lab book, which was $29.99. So, $230.”
