This Medium publication is a collection of popular science writing by people who are part of the Language and Music Cognition Lab at the University of Maryland.

Our research focuses on the cognitive science of language and music, and these posts are about relevant research. Mostly these are contributed by students who are working as research assistants and focus on recent work that we find interesting and relevant (at least tangentially) to research in our own lab. In some cases, this might include some writing about our own research as well.

These busy students are taking time to write these posts because they are passionate about science communication (and, to a lesser degree, because they are required to do so in order to earn class credit for working in the lab). In any case, if you’re interested in the cognition / psychology of language and/or of music, you’ll probably find these posts interesting.

Go take a look!

Bonus: if you like this sort of thing, you might also like a set of article assignments from a class I sometimes teach on music perception & cognition:

For LMCL RAs taking PSYC 479: here’s basic info on writing a post, adding your post to a publication (i.e., this one), embedding content (audio/video, tweets, etc.), using footnotes, and various other tips and tricks for writing on Medium. Happy writing!
