Picking Out A Christmas Tree

This weekend me and my little Christmas soldiers embarked on one of our favorite holiday traditions: picking out the tree for our living room, to go next to the gorgeous, stainless steel, custom-handcrafted grand piano. This year, though, we went a tad untraditional.

My smaller son’s taste is always changing, but most recently he’s had his eye on a special tree—a 100-year-old oak that’s been in the public park longer than any of us have lived! Well, both my sons get what both my sons want, so we cut it down (or, should I say, had it professionally removed from the earth leaving a deep, cavernous hole that will make a perfect tiny swimming pool come June, haha). The only thing is—and it still makes me laugh to think about this—the dang thing didn’t fit through our (recently and rather expensively remodeled) front door! So we are going to have to burn it up, or otherwise cut it into a lot of pieces and leave it as a special holiday treat for the garbage collectors. Don’t you think garbage collectors should enjoy Christmas, too?
