Why Be Yourself When It’s Easier To Just Be What People Want You To Be?

Tips On Being Yourself And Not Caring About What Other People Think

Being yourself will always be a hard journey.

And sometimes it will seem easier to just be what people want you to be.

We’ve all had that moment when we thought “Oh. So you want me to be like that? Well, let’s see how much you actually like me being that way!”

Let’s be honest, nothing good ever comes out from us not being ourselves.

We were created a certain way, to be a certain way and to do certain things, if we don’t choose to be ourselves, it’s simply a waste of a life.

Here at L’ARTISTE Mag, we understand how scary it can be to just give the real you to people and by the same occasion giving them the opportunity to reject the real you.

But fear not!

If you’ve already made the choice to just be yourself, then no matter what, you’ll be all right!

Here are some of our tips on being your amazing self without having a care in the world about what others will think.

TIP #1: Know Yourself

Do you even know yourself?

When we talk about knowing yourself, we don’t mean casually knowing yourself.

We mean, do you talk to yourself? do you try to understand why you’re feeling a certain way? do you give yourself some motivational peptalks? do you know what you really like? do you know what you dislike? do you know why you think certain thoughts? do you know how to get yourself out of a dark thought?

We mean, do you actually know yourself and make an effort to know everything about yourself?

Most of the time people think that things such as talking to yourself is weird and crazy.

And it probably is, but we’re going to talk more about that in the next tip.

We believe that you really have to take some time to just sit with yourself.

Maybe give yourself a private intervention in your head.

(We know how crazy that sounds!)

The thing is that we live in an extrovert world, so we prioritize other people’s company and opinions over our own.

That’s just the world that we live in.

So naturally, we are more prone to look for other people’s opinion on everything including ourselves.

But what about sitting with yourself and talk about what YOU really think and feel.

We’re not saying that what you really think and feel will always be right but no matter what, it is always valid!

And you’re allowed to be your own person with your own thoughts and feelings and opinion.

So next time something happens and you’re eager to ask someone for their opinion and advice, turn to yourself and try to understand yourself in that situation.

Listen to what you really think.

Don’t be afraid to also be tough on yourself.

If you think that what you’re thinking is not right, don’t be afraid to disagree with yourself.

Overall, just try to understand everything that is going on in your head and why it is going on.

We understand how hard it can be to do that but we assure you that the more you do it, the more comfortable you’re going to be with your whole self!

TIP #2: Embrace Yourself

As we said it earlier, talking to yourself might make you sound like a crazy and weird person.

But you know what?

Just embrace those labels!

We know that we are crazy and we for sure are weird!

But when people call us that, it doesn’t affect us because we’ve embraced the labels ourselves.

Not only do we embrace the labels that people give to us because we think that they’re actually accurate but we even give ourselves those labels before anyone has the time to even give them to us.

If we give ourselves labels before anyone has even the time to give them to us and we embrace them then when someone says it in a mean way, it simply does not sound mean to us.

It is as if they were simply saying “You are you!” — Yeah… and? were you trying to insult me? I am in fact me, where’s the problem?

Labels just lose all their MEAN-ings when we just learn to embrace them before someone even tries to use them against us.

TIP #3: Don’t Ever Be Silent About Who You Really Are

“Do not be afraid; keep on speaking, do not be silent” (Acts 18:9b NIV)

People will always try to silence you and make you feel like you don’t matter or like you’re not good enough or like you’re unworthy etc…

But you should always stand up for your true authentic self no matter how much people try to pressure you to be someone else or do something else that doesn’t align with who you truly are.

Don’t let other people silence you into becoming “normal”, whatever “normal” even means!

Be yourself, express yourself in the most authentic way possible and never ever stop!
