Why Do We Hide Our True Authentic Selves?
How To Be Authentic And Let Others Be Authentic Too
I think that one of the main things that we all want as human beings, is to be accepted.
Acceptance is really important to us.
We are social beings so we need to know that we fit in this human community.
Yet, I find it funny that we also have created a society that was built on not accepting ourselves or anyone for that matter!
Let me ask you a question, if we are so scared of not being accepted, then why did we create a society that teaches us what we can or cannot be, or even what we can or cannot look like, or even what we can or cannot do?
Our whole society is based on what we should be and what we should do but who are we to tell each other who we should be or what we should do?
Who are we to say what’s acceptable or not acceptable?
By us simply saying that we shouldn’t be a certain way because it won’t be acceptable in our society, we make the rules of our society and we show that we won’t accept each other for what we really are.
Those rules then get passed on from generations to generations until it becomes a known fact that “this way of being is unacceptable and it should be banned”.
In today’s day and age, if somebody tries to do something or be something that is slightly opposite of what was taught to us as an ultimate rule, we criticize them.
We shame them.
We exclude them.
And we make them feel odd or even “not normal”.
We’ve been taught to spot the unnaceptable not only in us but in others too.
And yet we are scared of not being accepted by society when the society that we’ve created only revolves around us not accepting things?
Do you realize how crazy and hypocrite that sounds?
We’re all really a bunch of hypocrites!
Criticizing each other.
Not accepting each other.
And yet our biggest fear is to not be accepted by others?
How dare we fear not being accepted when we teach each other to not accept people when they are a bit different, when they do things differently, when they look different?
No wonder none of us feel accepted or loved!
We live in a society where we learn to criticize people who are different from us.
We live in a society where we have somehow established what the acceptable look was or even the acceptable job was or even the acceptable way of living was and when someone wants to be their own self and do their own thing, we criticize them because they are not trying to fit in the ridiculous society that WE have created.
Do you realize how ridiculous that sounds?
And that is why, all of us, are hiding who we truly are.
Because we know that the society that we’ve created won’t accept our true authentic selves.
Not because it is unacceptable but because WE have decided that being yourself was unacceptable.
The only thing that is acceptable is to be and do what our society has established as acceptable.
And remind me again, who created this society?
That’s right ladies and gentlemen, we are basically making each other suffer and feel unloved and unaccepted because of the rules that WE have created!
So in reality, all those things that we tell each other are unacceptable, they really aren’t.
The only thing that is unacceptable is that we don’t accept each other for who we really are.
THAT is unacceptable.
The only thing that we can be and do is to just be ourselves and do what we were put on this earth to do.
Those are the only acceptable things to be and do.
Walking away from who we truly are and our purpose, that is what is unacceptable!
But we have created a society who’s only goal is to change people’s true self.
The society that we’ve created was not based on making all of us feel loved and accepted, it was created so that everyone could be the same and do the same.
Because somehow we think that it makes more sense for all of us to be the same and do the same but the truth is that we are all different.
And although we are all great and we are all capable of greatness, we all have different ways of achieving that greatness.
And the only way that we can all access our own greatness is by simply being our authentic selves.
And the only way that our world could truly be great is if all of us access our own unique greatness.
This can only happen if we let each other access our true authentic selves.
And for that we’ll have to give up on criticizing each other.
We’ll have to give up on trying to put each other into boxes.
We’ll have to give up on trying to control others.
We’ll have to give up on telling each other who we should be and what we should do.
We’ll have to give up all of that and instead accept that we are all different and that we all have different ways of accessing our greatness.
If we really want to be accepted and loved, how about we first accept and love ourselves and then let’s accept and love each other no matter how different we may seem.
Let’s give the love and acceptance to others that we want for ourselves.
Let’s not only think about ourselves and what we want but let’s also realize that others might want to same thing as us.
So let’s give love and acceptance to each other the way that we’d love others to give it to us!
Because how can you expect others to accept and love you if you don’t even have an accepting and loving attitude in the first place?
Don’t hide your true authentic self and don’t let others hide theirs either!
