Your Authentic Self is Not an End Goal, It’s a Journey

There is a misconception behind what it means to “be”.

Some people think that you can just be and never change.

But the truth is that we always change.

We always evolve.

We always get better.

Everyday we grow closer and closer to the person that we were born to be.

That doesn’t mean that the person that we are throughout this process of being authentic is not who we are but it also doesn’t mean that it is all that we are.

What we need to understand is that our mistakes or our dark days don’t determine who we really are.

And they definitely don’t determine who we will be forever.

Maybe those mistakes were part of our process for us to become our true authentic self.

Without them, you wouldn’t be able to become your true authentic self.

We also need to understand that “being authentic” doesn’t mean “being perfect”.

Perfection insinuates that there’s nowhere to go after you’ve reached that point.

However being authentic isn’t an end goal.

It is an everlasting journey.

We always need to be conscious of whether what happens to us is going to push us towards who we really are or if it’s going to push us towards becoming someone that we are not.

We can either let our mistakes define us and become that person.

Or we can walk away from our mistakes and choose to become who we really are.

But remember, being authentic doesn’t mean being perfect so you don’t need to pretend like you’ve never made a mistake or that you’ve never done something that doesn’t really reflect your true self.

It is ok to make mistakes.

It is ok to wander astray on your path to authenticity so long as you don’t let yourself be defined by those things that are not truly you.

There’s no “being good” or “being bad” there’s only being real.

And being real means that a lot of things will happen.

Some changes will be painful.

The sky will not always be sunny.

You might have to be someone that you’re not for a short period of time.

But all of that is part of the process to help you become who you really are.

Sometimes you have to lose yourself in order to become your true self.
