Lately I’ve Been Learning
38) Grow where you’re planted.
I have an unhealthy desire to be everywhere at once. I’m constantly afraid that there are people out there having more fun than me, doing more interesting things than I am, or just generally living their lives better than I am. But lately I’ve been learning that good things come to those who stay planted.
Think of yourself as a tree, and life as the elements. If you have no roots, nothing to keep you grounded, then you’ll topple over at the first signs of trouble. You’ll find yourself bending, and eventually breaking, because you couldn’t commit to just being yourself for a while.
I think the reason we all act so crazy is because deep down we’re afraid that we’re running out of time. We’re afraid that if we don’t start making the life we want this very instant, then we’ll never get the things we want. And so out of that fear, we find ourselves constantly moving, just in case the thing that we really want is just around the next corner. But that’s not the way to grow, to learn, to be.
Learn to be you, exactly where you are, and slowly you’ll settle into who you were meant to be all along.
