Today I had the luck to listen to a work-in- progress at the Roy Barnett Concert Hall at the UBC School of Music in Vancouver. It was performed by UBC’s brilliant pianist Corey Hamm. He was practising A. Carpentier’s Eroic Chase in E-flat major piano and harpsichord concerto for two hands. The Cuban Magic Realism composer stipulates that the piece has to be 46 minutes long. By my stop-watch check Mr. Hamm was over by two minutes.
